Live No Lies 2: The Flesh - Disordered Desires (January 12, 2025)
TODAY:
Live No Lies, Part 2: The Flesh – Disordered Desires
BIG IDEA:
The Spirit empowers us to realign our desires to God’s
SCRIPTURES:
Galatians 5:1,13-25, Galatians 6:7-9, James, 1:14-15, James
4:1-2, Hebrews 12:11
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Q: Are phrases like “The heart wants what it wants”, “You do you”, “Be your
true authentic self”, “Follow your heart” & others appealing or
concerning to you? Why?
Q: How do the Scriptures/concepts from this week help you grow as a disciple
who loves God, loves people & serves the world (lives on incarnational
mission) in everyday life?
Q: Based on these Scriptures, how can you move from unbelief to belief, from
just knowing to actually doing in your life?
Connect with God (UP)...
Q: Read Galatians 5:1. Simply put, Jesus set you free by giving His life. Why do
you think it matters to Him what you do with the freedom He gave you?
Q: What are some examples things that promise freedom but end up being
slavery, and things that might seem like you’re giving up freedom, but
actually gaining true freedom?
Q: What does it mean to mean to “walk by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16), be “led
by the Spirit” (18) and “live by” & “keep step with the Spirit” (25)?

Q: Many of the passages today refer to how disordered desires destroy how
we relate to each other. How can the practice of confession bring healing?
Connect with the World (OUT)...
Q: How can you lovingly share the principle of sowing seeds, “law of returns”
or compound interest with world around you?
QUOTES:
FLESH = the base, primal, animalistic drive forself-gratification & sensuality
SPIRIT = God’s empowering presence in us
“Sin demands to have a man by himself. It withdraws him from the community. The
more isolated a person is, the more destructive will be the power of sin over him...Sin
wants to remain unknown. It shuns the light. In the darkness of the unexpressed it
poisons the whole being of a person.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together)
“Real freedom comes from a strategic loss of some freedoms in order to gain others.
It is not the absence of constraints but it is choosing the right constraints and the
right freedoms to lose.” (Timothy Keller)
